this is the best damned biscuits & gravy ive had this side of the mighty mississippi river ever! the food is off the chart good! and the service ain’t bad either!  its a restaurant straigt out of montgomery alabama circa 1981 the year i graduated sidney lanier high school on so court st. montgomery alabama go poets!

  They have the best pies in town. Servers are amazing

The best items I like in their menu is the California Burger, The French toast and their chocolate cream pie

  Very nice, the atmosphere was like being home with family. More than enough food I had to take half of my meal home. A hidden gem.

  We had lunch today around 2pm.  

The staff was super, attentive and efficient.  We (party of four) were seated immediately with menus and a small whiteboard with the specials of the day.  And drinks were ordered and brought very promptly.

I ordered the fried tempura cod meal which was on their special Friday menu.  It came with fries, slaw and soup or salad.  The salad was very fresh and crunchy.  The fries were good but not as crispy as I prefer them.  I didn’t eat the slaw, a bit too savory/salty for my taste but I know slaw flavor is a personal choice.  Just won’t order it next time.  But the tempura cod was *PERFECTION*!!  I wish I could have just ordered a plate full of those.  It was perfectly cooked, the crust was light, crispy and the cod inside was soft and succulent.  I am definitely heading back again on a Friday and ordering that!  It should be on their everyday menu.   There is an excellent cook on staff!

My husband gave kudos to the Navy bean soup and my adult son very much liked the whole steak ‘Special Steak Sandwich’.  My mom had the tempura cod as well and enjoyed it.

We have now been twice in the last few weeks and will be going a lot more to try out their other menu items.

  Thought I would try out another nice family restaurant and I’m so happy I did.
I brought my Mom out to lunch and since I’m on Hawaiian time (3 hours) behind.
It all worked out for us.
I got breakfast and my mom got lunch.
Everything we tried was delicious.
The other winner is their homemade pies  
I came back at least 4 different times and tried most of their Pies.
The Staff are really all very nice which makes this restaurant my new fave in Escondido.

  Charlie’s family restaurant is great on all levels!
From my first phone call, the Customer Service was excellent.  Very polite and very informative. Once I got there to pick up my food, the service was great. The atmosphere was great ! good vibes all around. A lovely mom and Pop diner, which is hard to find these days. I was greeted with kindness and felt very welcomed. I wish I could’ve stayed to eat my food but I was on my lunch break from work. I will definitely be back with my family. (It’s too good to keep to myself) I ordered the Reuben sandwich french fries And iced Dr Pepper. The Reuben sandwich was amazing best I’ve had in a long time I could only eat half of it though because the sandwich was big with a lot of meat which is great. They have the big fries they were fresh and hot and perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside the Dr Pepper was great. It actually taste like Dr Pepper and not the soda water. Also, it is very affordable. The serving size is great, so you definitely get what you pay for. This was my first time here and it will definitely not be my last.
